Okay. Since I know there are a few beginner RPers in this forum (Lauren Lucasz and Caroline for starters, but also Matt a little), Laurie and I decided to start a little beginners RP called "I'm Good To Go But I'm Going Nowhere Fast" in Percival Park. So here's a little lesson in RPing to Lauren L and Caroline.
Basics:[/u]
• All RPing is is basically making a character (or a bunch of them like Lauren T and I do) and writing about them. It's like writing a book, except there are no other characters in it. Just you and your character. The best way to learn is studying an RP and figuring out how people RP and then jumping right in the deep end.
• You can only write about your character. You can't God Mod, which is when you make someone else's character do something in your post. Here is an example of God Modding. The actual God Modding is in red:
Tasha grabbed hold of the ball and chain, flying it above her head. Ashton looked on in amazement at her skills, and laughed. "Girl, you got you some skills with that thing!"
• Next up is M-Rated posts. M-Rated posts are posts in which there is mature (EG: sexual) content. ProBoards doesn't allow this content AT ALL, so please don't post M-Rated stuff!
RP Levels:[/u]
• Here is where the RP Levels come in. They are: Beginner, Literate and Advanced. If you are a beginner, you haven't been RPing very long, if ever, or just aren't very good at it. Generally, beginners are allowed to post short replies and are let off for the odd bit of God Modding. The paragraph that is orange is the beginner reply.
Literates are people who have been RPing for quite a while and can comfortably post in active RPs without much trouble. Most literate RPers have been RPing for around 2-3 years. Literates aren't allowed to get away with as much as beginners are, and have a word goal of 50 words to get to in each post:
Finally, there are the advanced RPers. These people are RP ninjas and can be in many RPs at once without getting confused or bored. They are super good at posting and keeping the RP flowing and can also take over another's character (only if the character's owner gives permission first, though) at short notice and post as them perfectly. They know how to read between the lines of an RP plot and hardly ever get stuck on what to type. Mosttimes, those RPers have been going for a good 4+ years. Most advanced RP forums have a word goal of around 200 - 500 words.
Thread Trackers:[/u]
• So you're almost ready to RP now! But one more thing: which RP do you go for? Well, on Facebook, there are hundreds of RPs that will get lost unless bumped up (a new post made purely to keep that RP at the top of the board, usually consisting of the word 'bump!'). On forums it's easier. We have what many call 'teams of highly trained ninja monkeys who eat your links and sick them up again when you want to find an RP', more commonly known as 'thread trackers'. You create a thread where you put in the name and link to the RP and then VIOLA! If you loose your RP, you simply go to your thread tracker, find the link, and revive it!
So, all in all, remember: read between the lines, no 'getting your freak on' posts and give the other people in your RP something to reply to!
Now, I think you're ready to go... Go find an RP and dive in! Have fun!

Natasha looked up at the noise. "What was that?!" she asked. -11 words.

There was a loud BANG from the other side of the hallway. Natasha, startled, looked up from the book she was reading. The sound rumbled underneath the floorboards like an earthquake. There was another loud bang and Natasha stood up quickly and looked around her. "What was that?!" she exclaimed.-50 words exactly.

Bang. The loud noise sounded throughout the Hideout, causing people throughout the place to look up from what they were doing. BANG. The commosion seemed to be coming from the far hallway in the eastern block of the building, which didn't seem like good news; there was a doorway to the outside world there. BANG! The sound was incessent, insistent, and Natasha found herself putting her book down and looking towards the source of the noise like many others in the room. BANG!!! She stood up, as did many others, and walked slowly towards the doorway, picking up her pump action shotgun on the way. She checked the ammo: a full magazine was in there.
"Either Sarge's training up some newbie or there's a rabid canon in there." Matt remarked dryly. Natasha shot him a look that clearly said 'just shut the Hell up, Matt'. She noticed that she wasn't alone in the glaring.
BANG.
The noises were getting quieter now, though the shaking didn't stop. There came a long stream of runing footsteps from beind the door and Natasha hastened towards them. Sticking her arm into the hallway, she snagged a fellow survivor and quickly took in his dishevelled appearance and the wild fear on his features.
"What's going on up there? What was that?!" she demanded.
The terrified man uttered the one word that had all who heard it freeze, their insides turning to ice: "Breach." -236 words.
