Eliana looked around her at the 15 or so Aston Hall survivors. She glared at the few consistant rule breakers and also at Mallory, who had just told her a joke that involved a book, a zombie and a vampire. No need to mention that to anybody else. But Mallory was trying to lighten and unlightenable mood - one of their number had been bitten today and it was all the fault of two of their very own Raiders. It had been thier fault that he had been left alone to face down twenty Walkers, their fault that his ammo had run out so fast. It had been their job to find him more amunition ASAP, but they hadn't. They'd rushed into a clothes store to, as they put it, "freshen up".
"Today, we lost Jon. Jon Monroe was a very nice man and a valuable asset to the Aston Hall survivors. But Jan and Dave made sure that he is no more when they left him to fight nearly two-dozen Walkers in the middle of town." Ellie paused, fighting the anger that had threatened to overcome her as soon as she had found out the bad news. "Even the Hideout survivors tried to help Jon. Why should they? Why should the Raiders - from ACROSS TOWN I may add - have to help one of our own? Why should they when our own Raiders leave their brother unprotected? I'll tell you why." The room went silent as the small population of Aston Hall University turned to look at her, flanked by Mallory and Daniel like warriors. "It's because they've retained their humanity."
It seemed that every eye in the room turned to stare at Jan and Dave now. It was their fault Jon had died, had been mauled by the undead in the middle of town.
"What should we do with them?" one of the crowd asked Ellie. She considered this.
"We should leave them!" another shouted. "We should leave them amidst the zombies like they did Jon!"
"No," Ellie interrupted them. "We can't do that to them, purely because that would be cruel and a waste of human life, so precious now. I say we banish them. Let them make their own way in the world."
"But we'd be as good as dead then!" Dave shouted, red-faced.
Ellie didn't loose her cool, calm expression of supreme confidence. "You could join the Hideout survivors. You know; the ones who actually tried to help Jon."
Pandemonium broke out. But in the end, it was agreed: they would be thrown out into the world to join the Hideout survivors if they wanted. Or they could finish up the primary school and hide there. Or they could just die.
